Activity description

Class will run from 9.30am - 4.00pm (both days) with a half hour for lunch. Bring a packed lunch and a drink if required. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Basic hand-sewing experience is useful but not essential. Ability to see and handle small, detailed work needed for hand stitching. GENERAL AIM OF THE COURSE: To make a simple Waldorf-Steiner cloth doll and learn about the different materials and techniques that can be used. LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of the course students will have learned how to: - build a doll head in the Steiner Waldorf Tradition; - work with the materials needed to make a doll; - make a complete doll. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: The two days will cover cutting fabric, stitching pieces together, building the head, stuffing the body and finishing details. We will use hand-sewing rather than machine work and some students may wish to finish work off at home between the first and second sesison. We will aim to have the entire doll finished by the end of the second session and whilst sewing we can discuss topics such as use of different materials and doll-making techniques. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS: Skin coloured cotton Jersey; Cotton, velour, jersey or other fabric for the body; Tubular bandage, 2 inches wide and 50cm long; Synthetic or wool stuffing; Needles, sewing thread, embroidery thread for featuers, pins and scissors. Tutor can offer a kit containing everything for £15 or just the tubing and skin fabric for £4 (these two items can be more difficult to find). Tutor will bring spare materials to the course just incase.
