Activity description

NB: The meeting point for the first session of this class will be Broughton High School. ENTRY REQUIREMENT: Adults, reasonably fit and prepared for outdoor weather. Suitable for both beginners and experienced foragers. GENERAL AIM OF THE COURSE: Have fun outdoors learning to forage with local Medical Herbalist, Fiona Morris. Enjoy leisurely summer evening walks meeting like-minded folk, sampling Edinburgh's wild foods and learning to make simple herbal remedies. LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of the course students will have learned: - to identify a selection of local seasonal wild plants; - how to safely forage in an urban setting; - recipes for wild foods and natural first aid remedies. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: Connecting with nature and the community while walking Edinburgh's wild spaces. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS: Rubber gloves (for nettle picking), Gardening gloves (optional), Scissors (helpful) Plastic/Paper bags/Recycled containers/Tupperware for collecting foraged plants Dress for varied weather & suitable walking shoes.
