DESCRIPTION: Higher Gaelic offers Students the opportunity to gain fluency and use a wider range of language. There are three units, namely: Language Study, Reading and Writing Focus and Listening and Speaking. You will learn to use new grammar and develop a wider range of vocabulary. There will be a variety of listening, speaking, reading and writing activities which will be internally assessed. You will also work on poetry and short stories. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: This Course is ideal for previous Gaelic students who wish to improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Gaelic. Knowledge of the language is essential, for example, holding Standard Grade at Level 3 or above, Intermediate 2 or Pre Higher Gaelic (which is available via Open Learning at Edinburgh College). ASSESSMENT: Internal Course Assessment consists of six National Assessment Bank (NAB) tests, each covering a particular skill such as reading, writing, listening, speaking and literature. One resit is allowed for each of the NABs. External Course Assessment consists of an oral test (6 minutes) and an external exam covering listening, reading, writing and literature. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: The Course is available to international students. Students require English language skills at IELTS Level 5. The Course will be delivered through the medium of English. PROGRESSION: Progression to courses at the Skye Campus (Sabhal Mor Ostaig) of the University of the Highlands and Islands. Gaelic related job opportunities, especially in public sector organisations. Cost of Course: £189.00.
