Activity description

If you have completed a beginners' creative writing class, or have been writing for yourself but aren't sure where to go next, then this course is for you. The general aim is to develop students' abilities and confidence in writing in a variety of forms with an emphasis on fiction and life writing. Constructive criticism, editing and preparing for publication will also be given due attention. The class will explore how to integrate personal experience in your writing, how to use all your senses to add depth to your work and how to find novel ideas. Students will have the opportunity to share their work-in-progress with the group and will benefit from giving and receiving constructive feedback. The class will build on basic principles including point-of-view, plot and characterisation using a variety of prompts and exercises. Please bring a notebook and pen/pencils. Juliet Wilson, the tutor, is the author of two poetry pamphlets and has had many poems and short stories published in literary journals and online. She teaches creative writing in adult education including at Leith Academy and the Ripple Project in Lochend. She blogs at Crafty Green Poet (http://craftygreenpoet.blogspot.com).
