Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS: It is the responsibility of participants to ensure they have downloaded and checked they have access to the Microsoft Teams Application. Students should have an interest in drawing and if possible have attended the previous post beginners' course. OVERVIEW / INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE: A post beginner's course for drawing with colour. Drawing and sketching, keeping a notebook and developing further drawing skills is a fascinating and lifelong pursuit. Drawing with colour takes this to an added dimension. All drawing is about communicating thoughts and feelings and learning to see things differently. Drawing is helpful if you want to learn about painting, printmaking, or other arts and crafts. Drawing is good fun and can be done while doing something else, like listening to music. Drawing develops skills like observation, concentration and can be absorbing and relaxing, as well as developing self-confidence through this practical activity. Colour has a strong impact on our mood and drawing with colour will help you to begin to understand this. This post beginners' course will develop your drawing further and continue into the autumn term. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: There will be a tutor talk and/or demonstration of drawing methods. Student practice - students will have the opportunity to try out methods and share their work, if they wish. 1:1 Tutor advice. WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: 'Drawing with colour' is a huge adventure, students will develop confidence in their drawing while making observational sketches, as well as working intuitively and experimentally with the added expressive dimension of colour. Students will learn about a range of drawing materials, specifically coloured drawing materials – e.g. pastels, [oil and soft pastels], inks [dip pens and brushes], coloured pencils, [including watercolour pencils, felt [brush] pens working in drawing books, [including with coloured paper] and/or separate sheets of drawing paper. We will practice and experiment by suggesting texture, shape, form, value/tone, depth/atmospheric perspective, with awareness for mark making and composition. We will explore some new techniques and projects using these varied drawing materials. We'll be working with new materials: acrylics, mixed media, felt pens, egg tempera, graphite, working with casein as a medium, liquid charcoal, Chinese ink painting. RESOURCES REQUIRED BY STUDENTS / ADDITIONAL COSTS: Pencils - HB, B, 2B, rubber, set of soft pastels or set of oil pastels, pad of toned pastel paper/other coloured paper [including black], or cartridge paper, dipping pen with nib; bottles of water based ink; and/or brushes, Coloured pencils, [including watercolour pencils], felt pens [or brush pens].
