Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS: Students to have completed beginner and post beginner level silver jewellery. HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES: (If required) A health questionnaire will be emailed to enrolled students and must be returned prior to the course start date. Covid awareness of individual use, social distancing and cleaning; Hair tied back; Students must have good use of arms, hands and eyes to work on detailed silver jewellery. Students will be issued with Guidelines on keeping safe in relation to Covid 19 while attending their course. We would ask that these are read prior to attending and adhered to for your benefit and the rest of the course participants. OVERVIEW / INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE: Five week intermediate level silver jewellery course suitable for students who have some experience making jewellery, it is not open to beginners due to Covid restrictions. Small hand tools and equipment are available plus a barrel polisher but there is no rolling mill or large polishing machine at this venue. Tools will all be shared between the students - at the end of each session the tutor and students must help clean all the equipment for the next session and vacate the room before the next session commences. The sessions will end 15 minutes early to allow for cleaning of equipment, chairs and tables. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: Students must be at a level where they are able to work independently with guidance from the tutor. Students will work on their own ideas and projects. WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: Students will develop techniques available include soldering, saw piercing and filing, hammering and texturing with punches, riveting, drilling, metal forming, polishing and finishing. RESOURCES REQUIRED BY STUDENTS / ADDITIONAL COSTS: The tutor can support students in their own choices of what jewellery to make and where to order their own resources and materials. Starter packs will not be available on this course, students need to provide their own materials - although the tutor will advise what to purchase with regard to precious metals. Masks must be worn at all times and hands sanitised regularly.
