ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS: It is the responsibility of participants to ensure they have downloaded and checked they have access to the Microsoft Teams Application. No entry requirements OVERVIEW / INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE: What makes Edinburgh special? Through a series of short walks in and around the city centre, we will explore how has the city’s landscape been created, and how the geology and landscape of Edinburgh has influenced the development of the city. We will explore Edinburgh's geological past, and discover how the landscape has slowly evolved and continues to change. We will consider how the rocks and landscape of the city have been used by people. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: A combination of three online illustrated talks, with plenty of opportunities for questions and discussions and five short walks exploring the city centre and greenspace. The first session of the course will be online - the tutor will inform the group the remaining weekly sessions. WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course, students will: - understand the story of how Edinburgh’s rocks formed by different processes; - appreciate how the geological variety of the area has resulted in today’s landscape; - make connections between rocks, landscape and people, considering how the landscape and geological resources of the area have been used by people in the past and present. RESOURCES REQUIRED BY STUDENTS / ADDITIONAL COSTS: None.
