Activity description

YOUTUBE COMBINED COURSE: Please note this course is taught using a combination of pre-recorded material by the tutor on YouTube, which you will receive a link to, and face-to-face session/s with the tutor which will be via Microsoft Teams. The course is advertised as the face-to-face time only and the video material can be watched in your own time at your leisure. For example a 5 week course may contain five hours of videos material to watch in your own time and 5 hours face-to-face meeting with the tutor. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS: It is the responsibility of participants to ensure they have downloaded and checked they have access to the Microsoft Teams Application. Students, should wear comfortable clothing, and have water to drink handy. HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES: A health questionnaire will be emailed to enrolled students and must be returned prior to the course start date. Please establish an environment, where you can move safely. Initially if you are standing in this place, you should be able to take, at least one or two steps in any direction without risk of bumping into any obstacles. Perhaps also consider your outstretched arms will also not meet any objects or surfaces. Wear loose and comfortable clothing, including socks or soft shoes. Barefoot is good too, but this depending on ambient temperature, and how you feel. OVERVIEW / INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE: Beginners Course: Is to introduce you to Yang Style Tai-Chi Chuan. This will cover the fundamental aims and principles of Tai-Chi Chuan, including an introduction to the philosophy underpinning this. Additionally, we will learn some warm up exercise routines, that will enable, through practice, to establish a foundation and develop agile movements to relax and soften muscles and tissue. This brings movement into areas of the body, where tension and stiffness may already exist. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: The tutor will demonstrate to the students, and fully describe, each position and movement. Through repetition during the class, and practice between classes, we will cover the ground of the foundational material. Questions may be asked during the course of these sessions, and student feedback of their experience is welcome. The tutors email address will be made available. WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: The foundation principles and positions of Yang Style Tai-Chi Chuan. A set of 5-warm up exercises, which enable students to practice stillness and movements, which are aimed at assisting the student to prepare for learning, the form. (A sequence of movement). The introduction to the principles and philosophy of Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan. RESOURCES REQUIRED BY STUDENTS / ADDITIONAL COSTS: When you sign up for this course it will be best practice, if you have medical issues, to declare these at the outset. The same applies if you are disabled. The course includes standing, and engaging use of legs as well as waist and upper torso. ‘Rooted underfoot, developed through the legs, controlled by the waist and expressed in the hands.’
