Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS: It is the responsibility of participants to ensure they have downloaded and checked they have access to the Microsoft Teams Application. Students should have attended Beginner courses (28 - 36 hours) or have an equivalent knowledge of the language, ie ability to communicate basic personal information and cope with every day or holiday situations such as travel, making bookings, eating out, etc. OVERVIEW / INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE: This course aims to build on students' basic knowledge of the language and culture for personal and leisure purposes; to build on students' confidence in using the language in a variety of situations; to develop further oral and written skills; and to extend students' knowledge of culture. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: The course will be taught by using mainly the communicative approach, which is task orientated with the emphasis on speaking, pronunciation and listening; pair work and small group work using virtual rooms; role play and learning how to deal with a variety of scenarios, ie - in the restaurant, finding your way about a city, asking for information etc; Videos and audio resources from the internet will be used. WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students should be able to: Talk about personal likes and dislikes and leisure activities; Describe their daily routine – “I get up at … , take the bus to work, have lunch at 1:00” etc; Talk about their habits – “I usually go to the cinema at the weekend”, “I rarely drink alcohol”, etc; Ask questions of others and talk more explicitly about their job; make plans for the future; Describe events that have taken place in the past; Use language in different social and professional contexts; Develop their knowledge of the social norms and culture of the country.
