Activity description

YOUTUBE COMBINED COURSE: Please note this course is taught using a combination of pre-recorded material by the tutor on YouTube, which you will receive a link to, and face-to-face session/s with the tutor which will be via Microsoft Teams. The course is advertised as the face-to-face time only and the video material can be watched in your own time at your leisure. For example a 5 week course may contain five hours of videos material to watch in your own time and 5 hours face-to-face meeting with the tutor. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS: It is the responsibility of participants to ensure they have downloaded and checked they have access to the Microsoft Teams Application. No formal entry requirements. All levels welcome. OVERVIEW / INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE: This course offers an introduction to some of the most colourful and significant characters in Edinburgh’s history. It will look at a wide variety of interesting men and women – poets, doctors, criminals, philosophers and philanthropists - and examine the impact they have had on Scotland, Britain and the wider world. Originally run pre-Covid in a traditional classroom setting, this course has been adapted for online learning. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: The tutor will record two or three short videos each week covering the lives of prominent Edinburgh Characters, to be viewed by students in their own time. An hourlong online chat will then follow between tutor and students about the week’s subjects. WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: Good overview of Edinburgh’s most colourful and important characters. RESOURCES REQUIRED BY STUDENTS / ADDITIONAL COSTS: Laptop, tablet or smart phone; paper and pen if required.
