Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS: It is the responsibility of participants to ensure they have downloaded and checked they have access to the Microsoft Teams Application. Suitable for all ages, levels of flexibility and mobility. Particularly beneficial for stiff or less agile bodies and those who have difficulty to relax. HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES: A waiver form will be emailed to enrolled students and must be returned prior to the course start date. Make sure you have enough space around your chair to move freely and safely. Use a quiet space where you are calm and comfortable. Interruptions during a deep relaxation may be very unsettling. Please try to avoid them, as well as having pets around. OVERVIEW / INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE: Gentle version of yoga that will help you increase your range of movement, reduce muscle/joint stiffness and improve your balance/stability, feeling more confident in your body. You will release tension and stretch your body without pain, in a pleasant way adapted to your level of mobility while toning your body, improving your postural alignment and developing your ability to relax. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: The tutor will demonstrate all the exercises, adapting traditional yoga postures to the chair and using the chair for support and stability during standing poses. Students will be encouraged to work at their own level and modifications will be offered to suit individual needs. Structure of the classes (please note times are only approximate): Brief INTRO with key concepts of yin yoga (5 min), BREATHING technique (5 min), ASANAS/EXERCISE (30-35 min), RELAXATION technique (10-12 min), CLOSURE (2-3 min) WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: SYLLABUS: forward, back and side bends, stretch, balance and toning poses, twists. By the end of the course students will have: learnt targeted exercises to tone the body and release tension as it arises in their daily life; learnt how to relax their body and mind deeply and consciously; learnt and practised a range of different yoga postures; gained general knowledge of yoga and of how to use it to benefit from greater flexibility, reduced tension and general rejuvenation of body and mind. RESOURCES REQUIRED BY STUDENTS / ADDITIONAL COSTS: Please wear comfortable clothes (preferably elastic) that allow you to move freely. We will use a light sofa blanket or similar in order to stay warm during the relaxation and a suitable flat chair, avoiding curved ones or those with elevated edges.
