Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS: It is the responsibility of participants to ensure they have downloaded and checked they have access to the Microsoft Teams Application.Suitable for all ages, levels of flexibility and mobility as long as you can do the exercises on the mat. This is not a chair yoga class. HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES: A waiver form will be emailed to enrolled students and must be returned prior to the course start date. Make sure you have enough space around you and your mat to move freely and safely. Use a quiet space where you are calm and comfortable. Interruptions during a deep relaxation may be very unsettling. Please try to avoid them, as well as having pets around.Keep your mat clean by wiping it with antibacterial product before and/or after every session. OVERVIEW / INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE: Stretch your body at a profound level, releasing tension from deep connective tissue (fascia, tendons, ligaments, joints) and contributing to increase long term flexibility. A slow pace meditative practice that reduces stress and emotional blockages, enhances emotional regulation, improves the ability to relax and leaves you with a general sense of wellbeing. Excellent for insomnia, calming the mind and the body. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: Structure of the classes (please note times are only approximate): Brief INTRO with key concepts of yin yoga (5 min), BREATHING technique (5 min), ASANAS/EXERCISE (30-35 min), RELAXATION technique (10-12 min), CLOSURE (2-3 min). WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: SYLLABUS: forward, back and side bends, stretch poses, twists, inversions. By the end of the course students will have increased their flexibility/mobility, improved their mind/body connection, developed internal body awareness/perception, acquired knowledge of basic yin yoga concepts, poses and breathing techniques; learnt to relax consciously body and mind; and experience enhanced concentration, emotional stability and general sense of wellbeing. RESOURCES REQUIRED BY STUDENTS / ADDITIONAL COSTS: Please wear comfortable clothes (preferably elastic) that allow you to move freely. We will use a yoga mat and a light sofa blanket to stay warm during the relaxation or for extra padding in some of the poses. Yoga brick blocks (x2) will be needed to facilitate some of the poses, and perhaps a cushion or a pillow.
