Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:  Sensible clothing with good walking boots, waterproofs and remembering to bring your own packed lunch as the walks tend to be cross country – but at a low level of walking difficulty.  A certain level of fitness is required. The Itinerary will be sent to enrolled students prior to the course start date. OVERVIEW INTRODUCTION TO COURSE   All of the walks for this activity are within the Edinburgh area. Each walk starts off by meeting at the designated Start Point for that day’s walk. The walk usually covers between 5-8 miles depending on the route with walking for approximately 1-2 hours, plus a lunch break and a stop for elevenses along the way. The walks finish at a bus stop so participants can make their own way home. A certain level of fitness is required, plus sensible clothing with good walking boots, waterproofs and remembering to bring your own packed lunch as the walks tend to be cross country – but at a low level of walking difficulty. Emergency contact details are compulsory for this activity.  HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT:   The Leader will set out the route for the day and the walkers will follow the Leader, with a minimum of 2 metre social distancing from the Leader and from all the other walkers in the Group.  WHAT STUDENTS CAN EXPECT TO LEARN:  RESOURCES / ADDITIONAL COSTS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS:   Refer to ‘Entry Requirements’ above for description of clothing and food to be brought by each walker.  HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES: Requirements to comply with precautions for dealing with Covid-19 in accordance with Scottish Government and CEC requirements.   WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN BAD WEATHER:  The walkers should be used to walking in inclement weather and come equipped as described in the ‘Entry Requirements’ above. In the event of exceptional bad weather (eg: lying snow), the Group Leader will contact their walking group to cancel the walk. If exceptional bad weather occurs at the start or during the walk, the Leader will decide if the walk should continue or be called off.
