Activity description

It is assumed that students have no knowledge of the language to be studied. NUMBER OF WEEKS/HOURS: 10 videos of 30 minutes for 5 weeks Videos 1 & 2 available on YouTube from Wednesday 24th June; Videos 3 & 4 available on YouTube from Wednesday 1st July; Videos 5 & 6 available on YouTube from Wednesday 8th July; Videos 7 & 8 available on YouTube from Wednesday 15th July; Videos 9 & 10 available on YouTube from Wednesday 22nd July. CHANGE IN DETAILS - PLEASE NOTE THAT AS OF WEEK 2 ALL VIDEOS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR REMAINDER OF THE COURSE. DAY AND TIME FOR THE INTERACTIVE CLASS DISCUSSION: Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 starting Thursday 25th June. OVERVIEW INTRODUCTION TO COURSE: This course is for those who wish to visit France and would like to learn phrases and expressions to be able to get by in everyday situations such as booking a hotel, ordering for food, shopping, formal language …. and much more. HOW WILL THE COURSE BE TAUGHT? The course will be taught by using 10 videos of 30 minutes each (2 videos per week). Each video will introduce and explain how to deal with a specific holiday’s situation ie - at the restaurant, finding your way about a city, asking for information etc …. The videos will be entertaining and practical and will focus on speaking and pronunciation. The weekly interactive discussion will be used to understand students’ needs and difficulties and to give them extra help and resources if needed. WHAT CAN STUDENTS EXPECT TO LEARN? By the end of the course students should be able to: greet people in formal and informal situations; use numbers; tell the time, know the days of the week, understand money; understand basic menus and order food and refreshments; ask for directions; hotel check. ARE ANY RESOURCES REQUIRED WHAT DO STUDENTS NEED TO PROVIDE? Pen and paper to take notes and make flashcards. WHAT WOULD BE THE ADDITIONAL COST FOR STUDENTS? None – apart from pen and notebook. ARE THERE ANY HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW? None. WHAT COULD STUDENTS DO NEXT? This induction to French language is an opportunity to become confident for doing a French course.
