Activity description

PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE WAS ADVERTISED INCORRECTLY AS POETRY FROM RHYME TO RAP. THE CORRECT TITLE IS WRITING IN SCOTS. Want to write like Robert Burns, Irvine Welsh or Liz Lochhead? This one-day course, taught by a widely published and award-winning Scots poet, will give you the skills and confidence to develop your own writing voice in Scots. Students will be introduced to tools, resources and activities that will encourage experimentation in a fun, supportive atmosphere. The course is open to both beginners and those with experience of creative writing. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Basic literacy, and an interest in writing creatively. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - read a range of poetry and prose written in Scots; - have a go at descriptive writing, poetry, prose fiction and non-fiction; - gain confidence in expressing themselves in Scots, and increase their vocabulary; - constructively critique each other’s work; - take away ideas and enthusiasm which will generate writing in Scots in the future. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: Tutor-led, with discussions, practical activities, and group work. A list of resources and links for future reference will be made available in hard copy and by email. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Writing materials (pen and paper, or a laptop if preferred). There will be a lunch break, so you may want to bring a packed lunch.
