Activity description

Mat Pilates exercises focus on body awareness, body control, body confidence and body alignment. Depending on the exercises selected, Pilates can help with core strength & stability, flexibility, balance, breathing, posture, strength and toning. Everyone is welcome and students are encouraged to work at their own level - there will be plenty of exercise options to suit individual needs. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry requirements - all levels including beginners are welcome. Students should be able to get up and down from the floor. The course is not suitable for:- pregnancy; stroke rehab; cardiac rehab; people with significant symptoms relating to neurological conditions. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will be able to:- • understand the principles and practice of Pilates exercises and Pilates breathing; • perform a variety of Pilates exercises effectively and safely; and • practise these exercises on their own with the help of the course notes. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT Tutor led course. Comprehensive course notes will be provided. To accommodate different learning styles, and to help students progress, the course will use different teaching methods including:- oral instruction; written instructions; photos of exercises; practical demonstrations; individual coaching and lots of practice. Students are encouraged to ask questions at any time. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS: Please bring a Pilates/exercise mat with you (thicker mats are best, eg 15mm or more). You will also need an exercise band (please buy a latex free band - about £3-£7 in shops / on the internet). Wear comfortable clothing - tight clothing is recommended to enable us to check your body line . However, it is fine to wear loose clothing if you prefer. Suitable footwear eg:- bare feet; gripper socks; soft ballet pumps. Students are encouraged to bring water to avoid dehydration.
