Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Some experience of portraiture and/or life drawing. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will be able to: - employ key observation skills in approaching portraiture and life drawing; - improved measuring and perspective, foreshortening, balance and composition; - bring out an image through contrast and tone; - deepen qualities of light and depth; - produce effective line drawings; - explore different materials and technical approaches; and - bring spirit and feeling into the portrait as well as style and atmosphere. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: This course is intended for those with some experience of portrait and figure drawing. Starting with head portraits and moving on to a variety of live models. The tutor will provide brief intros to each class, and individual demos during each session rotating one-to-one advice. A variety of different visual references will be also available, instructions and exercises to explore numerous approaches. The emphasis is on promoting quick sketches and sustained drawings with equal value. Enhancing your inherent personal style as well as developing new skills. There is also flexible scope to develop your own project should you wish. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Sketchbook medium and/or large; loose A2 and/or A3 cartridge papers; colour A2 sugar paper /or brown wrapping paper; masking tape; box of numerous width willow charcoal; white chalk; ordinary rubber; putty rubber, colour chalk pastels; ; artist quality fixative or cheap firm hold hair spray. if you are unsure the tutor will advise what to get, discounts and where to save money. Bring what you can to the first session. Please note that while we endeavour to have a model for most sessions of this course, it is not always possible to do so.
