Activity description

This relaxed and easy course will take you into a non- stressful way of making art which doesn’t require previous skills or experience. It’s about you expressing yourself through art rather than trying to draw or paint a perfect picture. We will be using art therapy type exercises which are extremely good for enhancing wellbeing. The exercises are carefully thought out, so people can make pictures etc without feeling nervous. We will use lots of different methods to make art: ink and string pictures, clay, painting your feelings, making a collage of things you like, designing a mandala amongst other things, making a picture that reflects you. There is no right or wrong way to do these exercises, it is about your feelings and your thoughts. You will get the opportunity to use a wide range of materials which will be demonstrated to you, oil and chalk pastels, acrylic paint, watercolours, ink, collage, clay. This is open to any adult including people with mental health challenges and those in recovery. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Everyone is welcome and no experience required. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - use a range of artistic techniques; - use a range of different art materials; - have the opportunity to express yourself; - develop your creativity; - learn art exercises that help with relaxation; and - take part in art projects that give you the opportunity to learn about yourself and strengthen your identity. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: In a relaxed manner with sensitivity to how people are feeling and how they would like to approach the exercise. With demonstrations to show the class how to approach the exercises. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: For the first session please bring A3 cartridge paper; a 2b pencil; and a 6b pencil. The tutor will give details of what to bring each week.
