Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: This course is geared towards the needs of beginners, but those with experience will also be most welcome. The wider the range of artistic ability and experiences, the better for class dynamics. It should be noted that this course involves a forest walk, so will not be suitable for wheelchair users. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: Students will be encouraged to freely explore and develop their own abilities, themes and creativity in a friendly & supportive taught environment. The class structure and emphases is on personal creative development through action and exploration with one-to-one tutor support and most importantly the enjoyment of creating freely. By the end of the course, students will have explored a range of materials and techniques; have gained a practical knowledge and experience of creating small-scale and large scale works from various materials; deeper understanding of the creative process involved in sculpting; more confidence in the use of materials and methods; and self-development through the student’s own artistic abilities, personal visual language and creativity. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: We will start in Bridge End. Beginning at Bridgend with a short introduction. Look at a variety of artists’ work, and chat about possibilities, materials and actions such as lashing, bonding, suspending, constructing, balancing and weaving. Then venture into the forest for an explorative adventure in search of materials and inspiration. We shall explore site specific installations and bring materials back to the workshop. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Camera/smart phone. - If not possible the tutor can take photographs but expresses that documentation is important. Sketch book, pens/pencil. If you have string, jute, wool, fishing line, soft metal wire, wire cutter, garden wire, ribbon, glue guns etc, please feel free to bring these or anything similar. Bring a packed lunch and drink if required. Outdoor clothing, waterproofs and forest footwear.
