Activity description

This is an informal group which will meet weekly to visit a range of different exhibitions and is designed to help people enjoy and appreciate visual art and museum collections in all its forms. The locations include The National Portrait Gallery, The National Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art amongst others. NB: The programme of visits and meeting points will be sent to all enrolled students prior to the course start date. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: There is no entry requirement other than a general interest in the subject. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have: - been introduced to a diverse selection of art forms; - visited many keynote museums and galleries in the city centre; - a greater understanding of art in its many forms; - a greater appreciation of art; - increased Knowledge; and - feel comfortable to attend exhibitions in their own time. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: The group will meet at the venue and over tea/coffee the tutor will introduce the exhibition or space we will visit that week, share thoughts and recap on previous week’s visit. The tutor will introduce the exhibition before the group will spend time themselves discussing and viewing the work. The tutor will adopt an informal role and share ideas, views and thought during the session. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS: Participants may wish to bring a small notebook and sometimes photography is permitted in any given gallery. However permission must be sought from gallery staff if photography is allowed. Most galleries are free to enter but occasionally a particular exhibition may have an entrance fee and the usual concessionary prices will pertain and in a lot of instances the Tutor will be able to arrange a further concession for a group. For regular gallery goers the yearly pass is often a very economical way to keep costs down.
