Activity description

This course aims to assist students in creating work using a variety of different media and art techniques such as charcoal, pen and ink, acrylic paints, chalk and oil pastels, crayons and watercolour and acrylic paint. Each student will aim to finish course with a varied portfolio. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry requirements but students should have an interest in art and a willingness to explore various art materials. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have learned: - to confidently use media & techniques that they've not used before; - to express themselves creatively with guidance from the tutor; and - to use a sketchbook, photos, postcards etc for reference and ideas based work. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: Students will work from a range of subject matter including still life, landscape, cityscape, seascape, the natural world, the human head and portraiture. The aim is to create interesting, exciting mixed media artworks, improve skills in composition, drawing and painting. We will look at techniques such as washes, wet on wet, dry brush, scumbling, layering, stippling, line and brush work. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS: Students will be required by provide their own materials HOWEVER you may wish to wait until the class commences to get information/advice from the class tutor before purchasing expensive materials and to confirm viability of the course. Students may wish to take some "basic" art materials to the first session, eg paper, drawing pencil, eraser and/or charcoal stick.
