Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No entry requirements. Beginners. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will be able to: - have developed practical skills and techniques; - be comfortable in using various drawing materials; - know how to compose a drawing; - know how to produce 3D drawings; - know how to convey light, texture and shape; - planning and measuring; - have progressed a deeper understanding in 'the art of looking'; and - how to deepen, loosen and encourage your own personal drawing style. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: This course takes a step by step approach to drawing. If you haven't drawn for years, or you want to get back into drawing, or you want to improve your skills to help your painting activities, then this is the course for you. Right through from the particular properties of different drawing materials - in the main using pencil, charcoal (pastels and ink later) - the decisions and processes involved in starting a drawing and developing it into a finished piece. Techniques and processes involved in building shapes, distance, light and texture. Providing you with everything you need to draw anything. The tutor will introduce, demonstrate and provide visual references and objects throughout the course. Simple but powerful approaches through practical activities and exercises. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Drawing cartridge papers, or sketchbook; masking tape; set of pencils or selection of graphite pencils (to include HB, 2B, 4B), thick graphite stick; willow charcoal; compressed charcoal pencils; ordinary rubber; putty rubber; artist quality fixative or cheap supermarket hair spray (Firm Hold). Bring what you can to the first class and the tutor will advise if you are unsure. Use your enrolment confirmation to get discounts in most art shops.
