Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry requirements. All levels welcome. LEARNING OUTCOMES: In this loosely themed and dynamic Life drawing class you will broach a wide range of aspects of figure drawing. From basic planning and drawing to scale, to the fundaments of anatomy and perspective, to composition, colour, and characterization; also looking at techniques with different media, textures and markmaking. You will learn how to observe acutely, be able to understand and rationalise what you see, and to proceed to rendering it in an ordered, informed and confident way. From these solid bases you can then start to take risks, experiment, and develop your expressive style. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: A range of professional models will be provided for you to draw from, and a theme and goals for each class will be roughly outlined, however within this framework there is intentionally leeway left for students to proceed at their own pace, leave out or expand on chosen elements as they see fit, and to follow their own interests and leanings. There will be formal tuition given on the theme of the week, and students can follow this and request one- on- one help as much or as little as they choose. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT: Please bring some provision for transporting your finished artwork home with you, also a good quality rubber and putty rubber, and a tin of firm hold hairspray. Please note that while we endeavour to have a model for most sessions of this course, it is not always possible to do so.
