Activity description

NB: The meeting point for the first session of this course is Southside Community Centre. Locations include, National Galleries, Royal Scottish Academy, Fruitmarket Gallery, Talbot Rice, National Museum of Scotland. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: None. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: We will meet each time in a nearby café or the gallery café and over coffee/tea the tutor will introduce the exhibition we are going to see that week, and share opinions about the previous week's trip. Once in the gallery the tutor or a curator from the gallery will give a talk about the highlights of that particular exhibition, then people will be free to look at exhibits in their own time, discussing along the way with each other. The tutor will circulate the group in conversation and further information. LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - know where to find a variety of art exhibitions and fascinating museum collections in Edinburgh; - be introduced to a wide variety of art; - have an understanding of the variety of private and public collections; and - to appreciate and enjoy art. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Students will be expected to pay for any exhibition that has an entry price, usually benefiting from a group discount. However majority of exhibitions will be free. Where there is a guided tour by a gallery representative the fee is £5, usually only 2 occasions per 10 week course. Payable at the first session.
