Activity description

NB: There will be no session on Monday 21st October 2019. The catch up session will be on Monday 9th December 2019. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry requirements. Students should have some experience in Oil Painting. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - handle Oil Paint, solvents, brushes, palette knives etc with confidence; - improve painting skills; - develop an understanding of tone, contrast, colour and composition; - been introduced to a variety of subject matter; - understand how best to express and interpret the chosen subject using a range of tools. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: Demonstrations followed by group and individual discussion and guidance. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: For the first class, please bring oil related materials you already have, eg brushes, oil paint and oil painting paper/support, eg canvas, primed board, plus small jars with lids, and rags. Also bring odourless thinner, for example, Gamlin: Gamsol Odourless Mineral spirit or Windsor Newton low odour spirit. {Aromatic solvents are harmful}. Pencil and paper is always useful for preliminary sketches and notes. Paintings can’t be stored in the classroom so a large pizza box and blue tak or similar is useful for carrying. Students may wish to wait until the class commences to purchase any further materials such as oil paints that have been modified to be used with water and also to confirm viability of class. Also discount can be obtained from certain suppliers on production of class receipt. NB: There is very limited parking available at this venue, particularly when school events are taking place.
