Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: An interest in colour in all its applications. All abilities welcome. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: Students will become familiar with: - harmonious colours to create atmosphere/mood; - complimentary colours or opposites – balance; - warmth and coolness; - layering and tonal variation; and - primary, secondary, tertiary colour relationships. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: Using paint and pastels to develop a feel for colour combinations and how they can help our creative life. The tutor provides ongoing demonstration as well as practical indications throughout the class and shows different artists’ work. The emphasis is on exploring as well as a deepening understanding towards finding our own flexible style that adapts to different situations. With group and individual guidance and plenty of opportunity to bring your own questions or develop your own project as you like. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Thick A2 cartridge paper or painting paper (thick lining paper is a good solution); masking tape; white chalk; ordinary eraser; colour chalk pastels; TUBES of water based paints; large (1cm) FLAT bristle brushes (all available from The Works and other discount stores); cheap hair spray (Supermarket).
