Activity description

PLEASE NOTE THIS CLASS WILL NOW TAKE PLACE AT DRUMMOND COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL, 41 BELLEVUE PLACE, EDINBURGH, EH7 4BS ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Either: have completed an 18 weeks Intermediate course, or be approximately Grade 2 standard; or be able to play and read a variety of music in 1st and 3rd position. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: Each student will be asked to bring two tunes (duos and trios encouraged!) they would like to play. The pieces should be no harder than grade 3 ABRSM. We will work on them as a group, so everyone will get a copy for themselves to play from and to take home. The course will be taught in 2 hour classes, with demonstration, interaction, and participation at all times. Each week there will be warm-up exercises and scales, and a variety of unison, duet and trio pieces. Development of music theory will be mostly achieved by practical means, but short lecture style sessions and handouts will be given as required and relevant. The pace will be determined by the students; and for those wanting to be stretched further, alternative arrangements of pieces can be provided, for an example a more complicated harmony time. There will be the opportunity for the course to conclude with an Open Lesson; this will be an informal performance of some chosen pieces of the course to invited friends/family. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: violin, two tunes of your choice
