Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No experience is required as all tuition will be given along with a handbook written by the tutor with tips and explanations on the skills learned during the class. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: ● Confidence in using the sewing machine having learned the process of threading up, stitch selecting and speed control ● Choosing fabric and patterns, understanding the instructions. ● Fabric preparation, layout. Pinning cutting the pattern and understanding the process. ● Understanding the various techniques in constructing a garment from, seams to darts, zips, fit and finish with the aim to have a complete garment at the end of term. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: The tutor will provide the students with examples and demonstrations of dressmaking techniques in a group tuition form, followed by descriptive hand-outs, this will be combined with one to one tuition allowing each student to work at their own pace. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Students are required to provide their own pins and dressmaking scissors, tape measure, pattern and fabric. For beginners a manageable pattern is required eg. Skirt, sleeveless tunic/ dress, waistcoat or shorts. If students are unsure of what to bring, please wait till the first to class as fabric choices and patterns will also be discussed then. Starting price of £30+ dependent on choices of fabrics, pattern and equipment, all vary in price.
