Activity description

Wild Plant Id and Foraging - Gain confidence identifying, foraging and learn practical ways to use wild plants. Exploring: Craigmillar Castle Park, meet at Bridgend Farmhouse, 41 Old Dalkeith Road, EH16 4TD http://www.bridgendfarmhouse.org.uk/ ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: An interest in plants, nature and foraging. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - Increase knowledge and understanding of plant id and the key characteristics of plant families; - Develop understanding of safe and sustainable harvesting. - Increase appreciation of native plant folklore, plant etymology and the harvesting calendar. - Increase understanding of edibles by tasting drinks and celebrating recipes that use and preserve edible plants. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: - Wild flower and tree id books - Wild flower and tree id photos - Flasks of herbal teas - Make a simple wild food item MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Bring plenty of warm outdoor and footwear clothing to suit the weather. Our time will be spent outdoors. Lunch - soup and bread provided. Bring additional lunch ingredients to share.
