Activity description

NB: The meeting point for the first session of this course is South Bridge Resource Centre. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Some sketching experience would be useful. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - observe what we see rather than expect to see; - build up a natural sense of proportion and composition; - allow form to emerge from the page and grow naturally; and - loosen up our work by remaining flexible and open. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: Using a variety of materials to explore this absorbing city around us with individual tuition. Meeting at a different pre-arranged location each week The emphasis will be on building confidence to explore rather than perfectionism. How to capture views simply and directly through the changing light, without losing ourselves in detail. There will be opportunity to develop your own project. Try to bring a folding stool when seating is not going to be readily available. In poor weather the class will be postponed until the following week unless there is an indoor alternative nearby. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: A3 Sketchpad; A3 sugar paper (scrapbooks); thick willow charcoal; white chalk; coloured chalk pastels (mostly available from The Works and other discount stores); cheap hair spray (Supermarket). You might also like to bring additional materials of your choice.
