Activity description

This class offers a possibility to explore the Italic Script. This script is one of the most popular and versatile hands in calligraphy. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: New students are not required to have any knowledge. It would be helpful though if you would have some idea of what you are aiming for. If, however, some participants have done calligraphy in the past there will be plenty of opportunity to widen and deepen your existing knowledge. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: To understand the basics of calligraphy in terms of lettering, spacing composition, and above all the desire to continue. GENERAL APPROACH TO THE COURSE: Unfortunately, calligraphy can be a bit off-putting in its initial stage. For those who are serious about learning the art, I will do my best to encourage all to keep at it. Plenty of handouts will usually be provided. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS: New students are expected to bring along: An A 3 Layout Pad by Daler Rowney; 2 Calligraphy markers, width 3.5 mm and 5mm; and a pencil and ruler. Students will be informed about additional material during class. Information about the tutor: Working as Designer, Illustrator, Fine artist and Calligrapher since 1989, extensive teaching activities both in Germany and Britain since 2006, founder of Red Balloon Studio in 2009. Bachelor of Design (Graphic Design) and Master of Design (Illustration). Numerous exhibitions, member of Scottish Illustrators. Awarded on 2010 (Calligraphy) and 2011 (Calligraphy and Watercolour). For further information, please see www.redballoonstudio.co.uk NB: There is very limited parking available at this venue, particularly when school events are taking place.
