Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry requirements. This course is designed for all levels but some experience of drawing and painting would be useful. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - build up confidence exploring a variety of drawing materials; - employ line, tone and mark making more effectively to show form and perspective; - improve their sense of design and composition; - a greater appreciation of colour mixing and brushwork in water based media; and - enhance their knowledge of different approaches and methods of expression through discussion and reference to art books/examples. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: Course is based around drawing at start of term progressing through colour work into painting in latter weeks. Students will be encouraged to experiment, whilst developing their visual and critical faculties. Demonstrations will be given by the tutor alongside individual support and guidance. Subjects will include landscape, urban scenes and studies from nature/still life. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: For the first session: A3 sketch book or cartridge paper plus drawing materials, e.g. B, 2B, 4B pencils, graphite or charcoal, putty rubber. Other materials: box of soft pastels or pastel pencils. Watercolour box (pans), selection of brushes, watercolour sketchbook. A comprehensive materials list will be provided by the tutor. Cost of materials should be £30 or more, depending on quality. Students should wait until the class commences to purchase any further materials and also to confirm viability of the course. Discount can be obtained from certain suppliers on production of course receipt.
