Activity description

Entry Requirement - No formal requirements GENERAL AIM OF THE COURSE An introduction to the basic skills and techniques of portrait painting – drawing, anatomy, light/shadow, colour. Students will learn to work with acrylic paint. We will cover the use of facial expression, gesture or pose, clothing, setting, objects. We will be mainly concentrating on using photographs; we will also deal with working with a sitter/alongside photographs. Some information about different drawing/painting materials will be provided. The course is project based and students will develop their skills while working on a their own portrait project. LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will be introduced to the basics of portrait painting, drawing, anatomy, light/shadow, colour, particularly using acrylic paint. Students will learn about working creatively from photographs. Each student will create a portrait. GENERAL APPROACH This is an accessible course particularly for beginners to portrait painting. The tutor will be available to offer help and advice throughout. MATERIALS REQUIRED The tutor will provide materials for the first week – acrylic paints and brushes, after that students will provide their own materials with help from the tutor.
