Activity description

Music Medicine will give participants the chance to explore how we can use music to create harmony in our lives. There are 4 elements to music: Rhythm – for the body; Melody - for the heart; Harmony - for the soul; and Silence - for the mind. During this course we will explore these elements and work together to create our own music. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: None - all welcome. This is a class for anyone who would like to find out more about the power of music. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have: - learned a variety of songs; - had the opportunity to try out a variety of musical instruments; - gained confidence in making music in a fun, safe space; - increased awareness of all elements of music and how it can build and strengthen communities; and - hopefully made some new friends. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: A variety of methods will be used including: Ice breakers and warm ups; Call and response singing; Breathing/ voice exercises; and Using percussion instruments. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS/ADDITIONAL COSTS: None.
