Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Suitable for all levels. No previous experience required. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - Gain knowledge of hand-loom weaving. - Warp up a loom - Translate designs into weaving structures - A range of basic techniques for beginners, to advanced techniques for the more experienced - Explore creativity and experimentation with ideas and materials - Gain knowledge of traditional and contemporary tapestry artists and their work - Work at their own pace in a friendly and supportive environment HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: A mixture of group workshops will be offered where everyone will carry out the same exercise, individual tuition for personal projects, and tutorials where students can discuss their ideas and learning experiences. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Students should bring a basic kit of pen and notebook, scissors, measuring tape, masking tape, and a fork/ bobbin. A loom is required (approx 16x20 inches), either provided by the student or purchased from the tutor in the first week of term, at a cost of £13. Warp and a variety of yarns are provided for class projects and samples. PLEASE NOTE Students are expected to provide their own materials for personal projects.
