Activity description

Note: This date is incorrect in the brochure as starts on 24th April. "The Gallery Tours 5-week course will include visits to Fruitmarket Gallery, Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Talbot Rice Gallery. Visits to Paolozzi and Warhol, Artist Rooms, Borderlines, Now and Senga Nengudi exhibitions provides a stimulating short course to include diverse and exciting work form a wide spectrum of artists." COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is an informal group which comes together to visit a wide range of different exhibitions and helps people enjoy and appreciate art. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: None. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: We will meet each time in a nearby café or the gallery café and over coffee/tea the tutor will introduce the exhibition we are going to see that week. Once in the gallery the tutor or a curator from the gallery will give a talk about the highlights of that particular exhibition and then people will be free to look at exhibits in their own time. The tutor will circulate the group in conversation and further information. LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - Know where to find a variety of art exhibitions in Edinburgh - Be introduced to a wide variety of art - Have an understanding of the variety of private and public collections - To appreciate and enjoy art. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Students will be expected to pay for any exhibition that has a fee, though the majority of exhibitions will be free. Where there is a guided tour by a gallery representative the fee is £5.
