Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No previous knowledge/skills required. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: This course will introduce students to the diverse nature of the artists' book and look at the book form as a means of expression. A range of binding techniques for example Japanese stab binding, pamphlet stitch and hardbound books will be taught through practical demonstrations. By the end of the course students will have developed at least one finished book structure using their own personal language. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Over the course students will: - have been introduced to different approaches to bookbinding and artists' books - have made several book structures using a variety of sewing or folding techniques - have finished at least one book project. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT: You should bring a scalpel or stanley knife, metal ruler, pencil, rubber, scissors, brushes and some A4 sized paper. All other tools tutor will bring and some can be bought from her if wanted. Bookcloth, 2mm greyboard and various other papers will be supplied by tutor. Materials will cost £5.00 for term.
