WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: The course is designed to assist students in creating work using a variety of different media and art techniques such as charcoal, conte, pen and ink, acrylic paints, pastels and collage. By the end of the course students will have learned: to confidently use media and techniques that they have not used before; to express themselves creatively with guidance from the tutor; and, to use a sketchbook for reference and ideas based work. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: The exercises developed for this course interact and overlap and are designed to build on each other. They are accessible to all levels and allow everyone to develop at their own pace. Students will be asked to work from still life set ups, masters’ drawings and paintings, and towards the end of the course, their own reference material. Advice will be given on using different media and art techniques. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENTS; APPROXIMATE ADDITIONAL COST: Students will be asked to experiment with different papers and different materials throughout the course. Students will be required by provide their own materials. HOWEVER, you may wish to wait until the course commences to get information/advice from the tutor before purchasing expensive materials and to confirm the viability of the course. The basic materials for the course are pencils, artists’ pens, charcoal, conte crayons, black watercolour paint, acrylic paint, A3 sketch pad, costing approximately £30.00. Students should take some 'basic' art materials to the first session of the course, eg paper, drawing pencils and/or pens.
