Activity description

Over the weeks students will use a variety of art materials- pencil, charcoal, pastel, inks, watercolour and acrylic paint. Sometimes all in the same work! Our aim is to create interesting mixed media works, improve skills in composition, drawing and painting. We will look at a range of subject matter including still life, landscape, cityscape, the natural world and the human head. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Students should have an interest in art and a willingness to explore various art materials. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have learned/be able to: - use materials and techniques that they've not used before; - to express themselves creatively; and - to use sketchbooks, photos, postcards etc for reference material and ideas based work. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: Each week, following a short tutor demonstration, students will begin by experimenting with the particular materials. This will be followed by a set project or a work generated from the students own ideas. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: Students should bring some 'basic' art materials to the first session of the course, eg: A3 drawing pad or sheets of paper (cartridge or sugar paper), pencil, eraser, charcoal stick. Following this - chalk pastels; drawing ink - black plus colours; a basic set of paints - watercolour or acrylic; a range of brushes; and a variety of paper/card.
