Activity description

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: All abilities welcome WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO LEARN: By the end of the course students will have: - learned how to look and how to simplify; - gained confidence in sketching, and clay materials; - built up images step by step in 2 and 3 dimensions; and - explored qualities of Light. HOW THE COURSE WILL BE TAUGHT: Sketching heads/faces with practical indications and ongoing demonstration from different visual references both historical and contemporary, presented through slides, printed images as well as a model on one week. We will then develop our sketches into three dimensional clay heads. The emphasis is on a flexible style as well as learning new skills. There is group and individual guidance/discussion with opportunity to develop your own project as you like. MATERIALS REQUIRED BY STUDENT; APPROXIMATE & ADDITIONAL COSTS: A2 cartridge paper or colour sugar paper (A3 scrap books); thick willow charcoal; white chalk; ordinary rubber; colour chalk pastels (all available from 'The Works' and other discount stores); and cheap hair spray (Supermarket). The clay will be purchased as a group at approximately £2 per student. NB: There is only limited on-street parking at this venue.
